Jean established the template for seven Area Structure Plans, based on sustainability principles, while working for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The plans were principle-based and unique to each of the communities. In the Conklin Area Structure Plan, for example, lands that were considered culturally significant were discussed with the community, after which appropriate land use policies were laid out and the areas mapped. Some of the other Plans that that have been passed are Anzac Area Structure Plan which provides the framework for the Hamlet to evolve into a larger, more complete community with a vibrant community core and a range of housing and services and Willow Lake Area Structure Plan which focussed on environmental and infrastructure issues. Chris, while working for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, ensured that each of the Plans could be implemented via a Zoning or Land Use Bylaw.
